What a great win last night by the women's soccer team. I'm glad I was there to watch my fellow Terriers win their fourth straight regular season title and keep that shutout streak alive at 10 games. Congrats!
Check out this article from BU Today on freshman goalie Kelly King. She discusses her passion for soccer and also talks about the time she spent in Tanzania.
Anyways, it's another busy weekend for BU Athletics, and it starts tonight with both ice hockey teams playing. The women host St. Lawrence, while the men play at UMass on NESN. I'll be over at Walter Brown Arena, but I'm pretty sure there will be a TV in the facility allowing me to catch some of the men's game. On Saturday, I won't be torn because the women will play at 3 p.m., and the men will follow at 7 p.m. at Agganis Arena.
Here's a feature article on Joe Pereira, the lone senior on the men's team. He currently leads BU with three goals and also has an assist so far.
Though both ranked hockey teams are playing, the big event this weekend is the 46th annual Head of the Charles. I have been out on the river before to row with the teams, and I have to say you need to be in excellent shape to excel in this sport. My arms and back were sore just after a couple of minutes out there.
This event will have over 8,000 competitors from around the world and will have up to 300,000 spectators. That is quite impressive and stacks up well against any other major sporting event in the U.S.
Head coaches Thomas Bohrer and Stacey Rippetoe will have their hands full this weekend. Not only will they be getting their crews ready to race, but they will also be welcoming prospects at the DeWolfe Boathouse and also spending time with alums who will be in town for Saturday night's reception. Coach Bohrer even has the added task of defending his master's singles title tomorrow morning. Good luck!
To help preview the two-day event, BU Today has an article on twin brothers, Charles Ruprecht and Andrew Ruprecht. I've posted below the slide show that accompanies the feature.
One interesting tidbit on the rowing programs. Their tanks were used for a scene in the movie The Social Network. Click here to read about what went into the filming of the scene.
Finally, don't forget that the women's soccer team hosts Maine on Sunday. Four Terriers will be honored in their final regular season game at BU, including Lily Albin, Corie Halasz, Shauna Kelleher and Lisa Kevorkian.
Have a great weekend and if you happen to spot me at one of the events, come over and let me know what you think of my blog.
