Even though I'm still recovering from last weekend in which I attended three hockey games, a women's soccer game and the two-day Head of the Charles Regatta, I'm ready for another busy weekend. We have ice hockey, soccer, cross country and field hockey all taking place in town. It's hard to imagine, but the postseason has already begun!
The cross country teams host the America East Championship at Franklin Park on Saturday, and I'm smelling an upset in the making. The men were picked to finish fourth in the preseason poll but had a strong second-place showing at the New England Championships a couple of weeks ago. Graduate student Eric Ashe took second there as well, and I for one would like to see him and my fellow Terriers capture their first title since 2000. Good luck!
Now for soccer, the men conclude the regular season Saturday against Albany at 2 p.m. They will honor six seniors, including Aaron O'Neal. He was the 2007 league Rookie of the Year and is currently tied with assistant coach Francis Okaroh for career goals at BU with 26. The band will perform at halftime, so don't miss out on the chance to see either perform.
The field hockey team will also have its own Senior Day at 5 p.m. after the men's soccer game. Go check out Allie Dolce, who was last year's Midfielder of the Year.
If you need extra incentive to go to these games, the first 200 fans at the soccer game will get a BU drawstring backpack, while the first 100 at field hockey will get a BU USB memory drive.
I will point out that the fifth-ranked men's ice hockey team host UMass Lowell Saturday night, but I have to more importantly give a shout out to John McCarthy. He was a co-captain on the 2008-09 NCAA Champion squad and earlier this week scored his first career NHL goal. Check it out here.
On Sunday, the top-seeded women's soccer team hosts Albany in the America East Semifinals on Sunday at 1 p.m. Read this article from the Boston Herald and the feature posted in the Scarlet Daily Digest.
Finally, wrestling will get things started next week at Case Gym with four visiting opponents. Junior Freddy Santiate was ranked 20th in the 133-pound weight class earlier this week in a poll released by InterMat.
Until next time...
