I'd just like to wish everyone a Happy Thanksgiving and safe travels. There is much to be thankful for on the athletics side, and here's a brief list I created.
- Men's Cross Country winning its first America East title since 2000.
- Women's Soccer winning its fourth straight AE title and posting the second-longest shutout streak in NCAA history
- Men's Soccer capturing the program's 10th regular season title after placing sixth the previous year
- Men's Ice Hockey capturing the Ice Breaker title for the second time in three years
- Women's Ice Hockey defeating North Dakota for the program's first-ever win against a WCHA squad
- Field Hockey advancing to the America East tournament and earning its first shutout win over BC since 1999
- Both the men's and women's basketball teams being picked to win the America East tournament after advancing last season to the CBI and WNIT, respectively.
I am grateful that we have so many teams that are competitive at the regional and national stage. The wrestling and swimming & diving teams are off to solid starts, and the spring teams (golf, lacrosse, rowing, softball, track & field and tennis) will be in position to achieve great postseason success this academic year.
The BU Department of Athletics has won the last five America East Commissioner's Cups and because of the fall teams' success, the Terriers are on pace to capture their sixth and league-record 11th overall.
Now, while students are away for the Thanksgiving holidays, the ice hockey and basketball teams are competing this weekend. The women's basketball team will be on Long Island competing in a two-day tournament, while the other three will be here on Saturday.
Don't spend all weekend at the malls. Instead, come out and watch these student-athletes represent BU with pride against the Ivy League schools.
Women's ice hockey faces Princeton at 3 p.m. at Agganis Arena. The men's basketball team then hosts Cornell in Case Gym at 5 p.m., and finally, the men's ice hockey team faces Brown at 7 p.m.
Check out today's installment of the Scarlet Daily Digest for full details.
Hope to see you there!
Until next time...
