
Women's Swimming and Diving Downs Brown, 171-129

BOSTON - The Boston University women's swimming and diving team kicked off 2011 with a 171-129 victory over Brown on Saturday afternoon at Competition Pool.
The Terriers began the meet with a 1-2-3 sweep of the podium spots as Meaghan Grimes won the 1,000 free in 10:26.53, followed by Megan Happ (10:32.18), and Katie Radin (10:32.43). Lauren Drake continued with the Terriers' momentum with a victory in the 200 free (1:53.35) and Kendra Cheng won the 100 back in 59.15.
Kristen Connors won the 100 breaststroke in 1:04.60 and later claimed the 200 breast in 2:19.24. Amanda Schmitz was victorious in the 200 fly with a time of 2:05.38 and later on in the 500 free in 5:03.86. In the quickest race in the pool, Maria McIntyre came out the victor as she touched the wall in 24.06 in the 50 free.
In the diving events, sophomore Melinda Matyas continued her dominance of the one- and three-meter boards with winning scores of 253.65 and 258.90, respectively. After taking third in the 1,000 free, Radin switched gears and came back to win the 200 back in 2:06.78.
Kirsten Tullis and Drake claimed first and second place in the 100 fly with respective times of 57.16 and 57.46 to pick up BU's final 1-2 finish.
The women will host UNH on Monday (Jan. 17) at 1:30 p.m.
