Happy New Year to everyone!
All the students are still enjoying their break, except for many of the student athletes who are back to either resume their respective seasons or train for the Spring competition.
So even with the campus empty, there are still games taking place. Sunday presents two important contests with the men's basketball team hosting Vermont in a rematch of the 2010 America East Championship. The Catamounts are off to a 2-0 start in league play, while my fellow Terriers are 1-1.
The team has been battling injuries and is still gelling with 11 new faces on the team. A win Sunday would be a huge confidence booster as Vermont has a RPI of 53.
Following the 1 p.m. tip off at Case Gym, the third-ranked women's ice hockey team will host eighth-ranked Providence with the puck being dropped at 3 p.m. If you recall, the Friars were last year's Hockey East regular season champions and host of the conference tournament. However, UConn upset them in the semifinals, and BU knocked off the Huskies to walk away with the title and automatic bid to the NCAA tournament.
Sunday's game is big because the BU women are only two points ahead of Providence in the standings. A loss and all of sudden, they are tied for second with 13 points.
So arrive early and support your Terriers in what should be two exciting games!
Until next time...
