Women's Basketball Rolls Past Maine, 75-34

BOSTON - Nine different scorers led the Boston University women's basketball team to a 75-34 victory over Maine on Wednesday night at Case Gym. BU matched its season-high with 75 points as the Terriers improve to 10-6 (3-0 AE) and remain undefeated (6-0) at home.

Senior Alex Young was named America East Player of the Game as she led the Terriers with 22 points and matched her career-high with six made three-pointers. Junior Chantell Alford was the only other player for BU to record double-digits, as she netted 13 points and matched her career-high with seven assists.

Junior Kristen Sims and sophomore Rashidat Agboola posted eight points apiece while senior Caroline Stewart grabbed a game-high 12 rebounds to go with six points.

The Terriers dominated the Black Bears from the opening tip, as BU shot 47.1 percent (16-of-34) in the first half and limited Maine to just four field goals (4-of-21) for a 19.0 percent clip in the first 20 minutes. The Terriers finished the game with a 43.8 field goal percentage (28-of-64), including a 47.6 clip from beyond the arc (10-of-21). Maine concluded the contest shooting 26.7 percent (12-of-45).

BU turned 24 Maine turnovers into 35 points and out-rebounded the Black Bears, 40-33.

The Terriers scored a season-high 44 points in the first half while limiting Maine to just 14 points, which was the lowest offensive output of a BU opponent in the first half of a game this season. Young drained three shots from beyond the arc and Alford added a fourth three-pointer, as BU took a 14-4 lead after the first four minutes. Danielle Walczak hit a jumper for the Black Bears at the 15:45 mark to send the teams to the first timeout with BU up, 14-6.

The Terriers then held Maine without a field goal for the next 13:28 as BU went on a 28-2 run with seven different Terried posted at least two points during the streak. The Black Bears added a pair of free throws from Samantha Barankowski and Mo Moran ended the half for the Terriers with a layup, as BU went to the locker room leading 44-12.

The second half began with a 10-0 run by the Terriers sparked by a layup from Young before Maine got on the board with a pair of shots from the charity stripe by Brittany Williams. Sims followed with a fast-break layup to give the Terriers their largest lead of the night (58-14) before Maine scored five unanswered, including its first long-range shot of the game by Rachele Burns at the 13:41 mark.

Maine used a 13-6 run over the next nine minutes to bring the score to 66-29 following a Courtney Anderson three-pointer at 4:31. Young then sank her sixth trey of the night and Maine could only muster a jumper by Ashleigh Roberts in the last three minutes, as BU cruised to a 75-34 victory.

The Terriers take their three-game winning streak to Long Island for their next game, as BU visits Stony Brook on Saturday, Jan. 14. Tip-off is set for 2 p.m. in Pritchard Gymnasium.
