November 9, 2012 | Women's Lightweight Rowing
Nov. 9, 2012
The Boston University women's rowing team will compete in the Foot of the Charles this Saturday morning. The event will mark the debut of BU's women's lightweight rowing program which will take to the Charles River to compete for the first time in the varsity 4 and novice 8 races.
BU first announced the addition of women's lightweight rowing program back in February 2012.
"We’ve been waiting a long time for the Foot of the Charles," said lightweight coach Malcolm Doldron. "Symbolically speaking, we all realize how important tomorrow is to BU Athletics as it is the first regatta for the Lightweight Women’s program. Regardless of the results we can all be proud to say we were a part of a historic day for the BU Athletics community. I’m excited to see how we stack up to the rest of the schools on the river."
The BU women's rowing team is coming off a solid performance at the Princeton Chase two weeks ago. In the varsity eight race, the Terriers' top boat placed 14th in a field of 55, finishing ahead of the top crews from Northeastern, Michigan State, Georgetown, MIT, Dartmouth and George Washington.
The Terriers will compete against crews from Radcliffe (Harvard), Boston College, Northeastern and MIT, starting at 8 a.m.
This weekends' competition concludes the team's Fall schedule. BU will continue training and prepare the spring season starting at Clemson on March 16.
