BOSTON - Highlighted by a rematch against rival Northeastern, the Boston University women's rowing team will compete in its first CAA Championship on Sunday, April 29, with racing set to begin at 9:30 a.m. on the Occoquan Reservoir in Fairfax Station, Va.
The fourth-annual CAA Championship will feature seven schools - BU, two-time champion Northeastern (2009, 2011), 2010 champion Buffalo, Drexel, Old Dominion, George Mason and Delaware.
Unlike a dual race in which only the varsity eight boats fight for the Cup, the CAA title will be decided by three boats - varsity eight, second varsity eight and varsity four. If there's a tie in points, the trophy will be given to the team with the highest finish in the varsity eight race.

The Huskies have won the varsity eight race the last three years but lost the title in 2010 to Buffalo by a point due to the varsity four boat placing third.
Back on March 24, the Terriers faced Northeastern in all three races during the Beanpot. BU defeated the Huskies by 6.2 seconds for its first Council Cup victory since 2005 but lost in the 2V8 (3.5s) and the V4 (2.1s).
Since then, Northeastern's varsity eight boat has posted wins over Syracuse (3.0s), Clemson (4.7s), and Rhode Island (11.6s). The Terriers went 2-1 against those three programs with a Kittell Cup victory over the Orange (1.6s) and win against the Rams (3.5s). The Tigers defeated BU by 15.09 seconds in the first race of the season in South Carolina on March 17.
A two-time CAA runner-up and 2010 champion, Buffalo saw all three of its heavyweight eight boats earn wins last weekend in a race against MIT and Massachusetts in Boston. Buffalo also captured the Harvey Cup earlier this season with wins over Eastern Michigan, Colgate and Dayton.
Delaware, Drexel, George Mason and Old Dominion all turned in strong performances at the competitive Knecht Cup in New Jersey on April 14-15. ODU placed third in the CAA Championship a year ago following second-place finishes in the varsity eight and varsity four races.
Competing since 1974, the Terriers joined their first-ever NCAA-affiliated conference in the CAA last August as an associate member, as the NCAA moves closer to awarding automatic NCAA Championship berths to conference champions.
While BU's varsity crews compete in Virginia, the novice boats will race Saturday (April 28) against Harvard and Northeastern's novices with action slated to begin on the Charles River at 9 a.m.
After competing at the CAA Championship, BU will next race at the Eastern Sprints on Sunday, May 13, in Collingswood, N.J.
