DURHAM, N.H. - Junior Rich Peters crusied to a victory in his season debut as the Boston University men's cross country team took first place at the New Hampshire Invitational on Friday afternoon.
This is the second straight team title for the Terriers, as they also won the Bryant Invitational the previous weekend (Sept. 8). BU had four runners in the top 10 and five in the top 12 to claim an easy victory with 35 points. The Terriers bested America East foes New Hampshire (50 points), Albany (80), Maine (83) and Vermont (103).
Peters finished the course more than a full minute faster than his next-closest competitor, crossing the finish line with a time of 25:07.81. His average mile time was 5:03.4, nearly 13 seconds faster than the second-place athlete.
Freshman Kevin Thomas had the best finish of his young career, as he placed sixth with a time of 26:30.51. Senior Michael Caputo was right behind him in seventh (26:47.48), followed by freshman Alec Olson in ninth (26:51.78). Sophomore Ben Ravetz was 12th (26:56.32) to round out the Terriers' scoring.
Senior Terence Galasso was 17th (27:24.32), junior Tom Waterman was 28th (27:58.68), sophomore Matt Solomon was 35th, freshman Paul Gennaro finished 37th (28:18.67) and senior Michael Bhatt finished 45th (28:49.57).
BU will have next weekend off before it looks to win its third consecutive event when the Terriers travel to Bethlehem, Pa., to compete at the Lehigh Invitational on Sept. 28.
