Former Smith College assistant varsity coach Grace Hollowell was named to the newly created position of assistant coach of women's lightweight rowing, head coach Malcolm Doldron announced Monday morning.
"Grace's experience as a coach and recruiter combined with her deep passion for rowing made her the ideal choice for the job," said Doldron. "I have little doubt she will be an excellent addition to our staff as we continue to build our lightweight program with the goal of being among the best in the country."
Hollowell joins the Terriers' staff after serving as the assistant varsity coach at Smith College during the 2012-13 season and head novice coach in 2011-12. Prior to her work at Smith, she served as volunteer assistant coach for Harvard/Radcliffe lightweight rowing in the Spring of 2011. In addition to her coaching experience at Smith and Harvard, Hollowell also served as a teaching fellow and lecturer in exercise and sport science at Smith from 2011-13. Hollowell has also coached at numerous summer camps including Bromfield/Acton-Boxborough Rowing and Saratoga Rowing.
"I could not be more excited to join Coach Doldron and be part of BU's lightweight women's rowing staff," said Hollowell. " I think Coach Doldron has done a great job cultivating a team focused not just on working hard, but doing so together as a team. As a former lightweight rower, I also understand the importance of dedication and passion to going fast, and I see both of those things in the program at B.U. I look forward to helping our student-athletes achieve their goals on and off the water and I feel lucky to be a part of a growing and fast program."
The Ann Arbor, Mich., native recently received her M.S. degree from Smith College and is a 2010 graduate of Harvard University, where she rowed on the lightweight team for four years.
