Senior Christine Silen of the Boston University golf team was named a tri-captain for the 2013-14 season, head coach Bruce Chalas announced on Wednesday.
Silen, a Montclair, N.J., native, had a solid 2012-13 campaign as she helped BU win a program-record three tournaments. She shot a career-low round of 76 at the Bucknell Invitational last September as part of the Terriers' first victory since 2008.
"Christine has demonstrated great leadership skills and a passion for tournament golf," Chalas said. "She likes to mentor the new players on the team, which has been an incredible asset for us, especially over the last two years."
BU held its first practice of the 2013-14 season on Wednesday as the team played nine holes at Thorny Lea Golf Club in Brockton, Mass. The Terriers will have a quick turnaround from their first practice when they defend their title at the Bucknell Invitational on Sept. 7-8. The golf team will make history this weekend as it will be the first time a BU program will compete at the campus of a Patriot League institution as a member of the conference.
