JACKSONVILLE, Fla. - Led by sophomore Adela Cejnarova's three-under 69, the Boston University golf team enjoyed a record opening round at the Jacksonville University Courtyard Classic on Monday.
Cejnarova, who carded the program's first-ever 69 at last year's Yale Intercollegiate, matched that score in the day's first 18 holes. Her score of three-under-par is also a new program record. She was one-over through the first seven holes, but Cejnarova finished her morning at four-under to surge to the top of the leaderboard.
In addition to Cejnarova's fine round, the remaining four Terriers all completed rounds below 80. Freshman Phyllis Tang totaled a 74, senior Flor Canedo shot a 75, junior Emily Tillo fired a 76 and senior Kristyna Pavlickova posted a 77. The team's total of 294 is a new program record; BU previously combined for a score of 295 in the opening round of the Dartmouth Invitational in September.
Four players finished the second round in the top 20, with Tillo's second-round 73 vaulting her into a tie for 16th (149). Three others are tied for 19th with a score of 150. Canedo remained consistent and carded another 75, followed by Tang with a 76 and Cejnarova with an 81. Tillo and Cejnarova lead BU with six birdies apiece through two rounds while Cejnarova also had an eagle during her second round.
BU, which ended the first round tied for second, is currently tied for fourth and will conclude the 54-hole tournament on Tuesday.
