CENTER VALLEY, Pa. - Juniors Shelby Stableford and Michelle Sumner of the Boston University women's cross country team were each named to the Academic All-Patriot League Team, the conference announced on Monday.
Both harriers were terrific as the Terriers enjoyed another fine season in the Patriot League. The duo was instrumental in BU capturing its second straight conference crown, with Stableford securing ninth place and Sumner finishing 16th at the championship meet.
This is the second straight season that Stableford has earned a spot on the Academic All-League Team. She holds a 3.83 grade-point average as an economics major. The Colorado Springs, Colorado, native notched two additional top-10 finishes during the 2014 campaign, placing sixth at the Ted Owen Invitational and seventh at the Nassaney Invitational.
Sumner made the Academic All-League squad for the first time after earning a GPA of 3.76 while majoring in business administration and management. A two-time Patriot League Runner of the Week, Sumner had three top-10 finishes in 2014. She placed second at both the Nassaney Invitational and the Ted Owen Invitational before taking seventh at the New England Championship.
To be eligible for the Academic All-Patriot League Team, a student-athlete must have at least a 3.20 cumulative grade point average and have competed at the Patriot League Championship. Freshmen or students in their first academic year at their school are not eligible for the honor.
BU will be in action on Friday (Nov. 14) when the Terriers compete at the NCAA Northeast Regional at Van Cortlandt Park in the Bronx, New York.
