November 3, 2014 | Women's Ice Hockey
WAKEFIELD, Mass. - Junior Rebecca Russo of the Boston University women's ice hockey team was named Hockey East Player of the Week, the league office announced on Monday.
Russo was instrumental in the Terriers' pair of victories this past week, beginning with a two-goal effort against Northeastern on Tuesday night. Her second-period strike broke a 2-2 deadlock and secured a 3-2 victory in the team's home opener. She followed that up with the game-winning goal in Sunday's 4-2 triumph over New Hampshire. Once again, she broke a 2-2 tie to help secure the two points.
It has been a terrific start to the 2014-15 season for the Westport, Connecticut, native. She is tied for the team lead with five goals and is tied for second on the squad with eight points. Russo also leads Hockey East and is tied for second in the country with three game-winning goals.
BU will be back in action on Saturday when the Terriers trek to Yale. Puck drop is set for 3 p.m.
