December 15, 2014 | Women's Ice Hockey
WAKEFIELD, Mass. - Freshman Erin O'Neil of the Boston University women's ice hockey team was named Hockey East Rookie of the Week, the league office announced Monday.
O'Neil made 15 saves last Monday to help lead the Terriers to a 3-1 victory over Providence in the final game before the holiday break. She also earned her first collegiate assist when she poked a loose puck to senior Marie-Philip Poulin, who then fired into an empty net to seal the win.
The Minnetonka, Minnesota, native is 4-2-1 this season and is 3-0-0 at home. She enters 2015 with a 2.63 goals-against average and a .905 save percentage. O'Neil is the first Terrier goaltender since Kerrin Sperry in 2010-11 to win four of her first seven starts.
