Terriers Take Third at Rhode Island Invitational

KINGSTON, R.I. – The Boston University women’s track & field team finished third at the Rhode Island Invitational on Saturday afternoon at Mackal Field House.
BU earned 114 points, a half point shy of second-place Brown. Rhode Island won the meet with a score of 170.5 points.
The Terriers dominated the sprints, led by sophomore Christy Wood (25.19, 57.22) and senior Carolyn Maynard (25.35, 57.72), who finished first and second, respectively, in both the 200m dash and the 400m dash. BU had five athletes in the top six of the 200m dash, with junior Gemma Acheampong (25.85) and freshmen Djenne Parris (26.01) and Toria Levy (26.08) taking fourth, fifth and sixth, respectively.
Acheampong (7.66) also won the 60m dash while Parris finished fourth in the 400m dash. Freshman Kerri Graber also picked up points in the 400m dash with a seventh-place time of 58.50 seconds. Sophomore Jade Paul (1:16.53) and junior Hannah Wiley (1:16.75) were 1-2 in the 500m dash while sophomore Sophie Jancsurak (8.89), Levy (9.06) and freshman Ally Saccone placed second, fifth and eighth, respectively, in the 60m hurdles to help BU collect 96 of its 114 points in sprint events.
In field events, junior Tessa Runels (5.52m) secured second in the long jump and was sixth in the triple jump with a leap of 11.04 meters. Senior Sarah Dillard was fourth in the weight throw (15.15m) while freshman Natalie Grabowski placed seventh in the pole vault (2.85m).
BU will be back in action on Feb. 7 when the Terriers host the David Hemery Valentine Invitational.
