HAMILTON, N.Y. - Making its first-ever trip to Colgate, the Boston University softball team claimed a doubleheader sweep by a combined score of 13-3 on Saturday afternoon. With the pair of victories, the Terriers (23-18, 7-4 PL) extend their win streak to four games, while the Raiders fall to 9-23 and 2-9 in league play.

Sophomore Melanie Russell (5-3) struck out 10 Raiders and limited them to just three hits in a 5-2 win. In the second contest, freshman Makinna Akers (5-2) scattered six hits through seven innings and tallied two strikeouts for the 8-1 victory.

At the plate, senior Amy Ekart and freshman Brittany Younan keyed the five-run sixth inning in the first game with a pair of two-RBI hits, one a single and the second a double. In the second inning of the second game after Colgate grabbed a 1-0 lead, two runs scored on junior Emily Felbaum's grounder that was mishandled by the Raiders.

Finishing with a team-high four hits on the day, junior Mandy Fernandez scored the game-tying run and extended the lead to 3-1 in the third with an RBI single.

Colgate led, 2-0, against Russell behind an RBI single in the first and RBI double in the fifth before the Terriers charged back. Senior Chelsea Kehr led off the sixth with a walk and advanced to second on Fernandez's single. She then took third on Felbaum's single and scored when Colgate mishandled the ball in the outfield. Ekart and Younan later followed with the two-RBI hits to seal the win.

The Raiders again opened with a 1-0 lead with a one-out RBI single up the middle, but BU quickly erased the deficit in the second with three runs off two hits and four defensive errors.  The Terriers added three more runs in the sixth off two hits and a pair of errors to pull away for the victory.

BU and Colgate will complete the weekend series on Sunday (April 20) at 12 p.m.
