Terriers Defeat URI and Buffalo on Saturday

The Boston University women’s rowing team continued its spring season with victories over URI and Buffalo on Saturday. The Terriers finished first in the varsity eight race as well as the varsity four and third varsity eight races. BU took second in the second varsity eight race behind URI.
After a long delay due to the URI varsity boat sustaining damage after hitting a buoy, BU’s varsity eight boat defeated URI and Buffalo in a very close race. Coxed by senior Sarah Specht and stroked by freshman Kerri Wegner, the V8 finished with a time of 7:32.1, just ahead of the URI boat which closed furiously at the finish but fell to the Terriers by 1.7 seconds. Buffalo’s V8 boat was third with a time of 7:48.1.
In the second varsity eight race, BU finished second to URI but ahead of Buffalo. Stroked by senior Mackenzie Wiler and coxed by freshman Marlaina Miller, the Terriers 2V8 finished with a time of 7:49.9, behind URI’s time of 7:35.3 but well ahead of Buffalo’s 8:17.1.
The 3V8 boat, coxed by freshman Ana Dellienand and stroked by freshman Kristin Damm, got things started in BU’s first race of the day. Rebounding from a third place finish last weekend, the third varsity finished with a time of 7:52.6, two seconds ahead of URI and well ahead of Buffalo’s time of 8:03.0
The Terriers will continue their busy weekend tomorrow when they face off against Syracuse and Minnesota on Sunday. A delayed video of Sunday’s racing action will be available on the Patriot League network by clicking HERE starting approximately 1 p.m.
