Terriers Fall to Syracuse in Kittel Cup

Boston - Concluding a very busy weekend of racing, the Boston University women’s rowing team continued its spring season on Sunday, competing against Syracuse for the Kittel Cup and Minnesota on a windy Charles River. For the day, the Terriers finished third in the V8, 2V8 and 3V8 races.
Coming off victories over URI and Buffalo on Saturday, the V8 boat, coxed by senior Sarah Specht and stroked by freshman Kerri Wegner, finished with a time of 7:33.1, well behind Syracuse which finished with a time of 7:12.8 and Minnesota with a time of 7:15.1. The Kittel Cup loss to Syracuse was the second in a row for the Terriers. Prior to the two recent losses, BU had captured four of the previous five Kittel Cups.
In Sunday’s second varsity eight race, the Terriers finished with a time of 7:52.9, again behind race winner Syracuse (7:21.6) and Minnesota (7:30.1). In the first race of the day, it was Minnesota winning the third varsity eight race with a time of 7:54.8, followed by Syracuse (8:07.6) and BU (8:22.1).
Sunday’s races were the second straight day of competition for the Terriers, who raced against URI and Buffalo the previous day. The Terriers fared better on Satruday, winning the varsity eight, varsity four and third varsity eight races.
Next week the Terriers travel to New Haven, Conn. to face Yale and Dartmouth on Saturday, April 12.
