INDIANAPOLIS, Ind. - The Patriot League champion Boston University women's rowing team continued the NCAA Championship by racing in the C/D semifinals on Saturday morning at Eagle Creek Park. Five crews competed in each of the three races with the top three advancing to the C Final.
Coxed by senior Sarah Specht and stroked by junior Claire Richer, the varsity eight boat posted a time of 6:56.942 to defeat Atlantic 10 champion UMass by nine seconds. However, it missed out on a C Final berth by 1.9 seconds to CAA champion Northeastern.
The Huskies led by 0.7 seconds through the first 1,000 meters and held off a Terrier charge for third place. WCC champion San Diego won the race at 6:48.033 with Wisconsin taking second at 6:52.124.
BU's second varsity eight boat coxed by Eline Vermeulen and stroked by freshman Kelli Wegner defeated MAAC champion Jacksonville by 24 seconds with a time of 7:18.422. San Diego though took the third spot by a margin of 13 seconds. Wisconsin won the race at 6:55.484, and C-USA champion Oklahoma took second at 7:01.613.
In the final race of the day, the varsity four boat coxed by Marlaina Miller and stroked by sophomore Jo MacCune finished finish at 8:13.767. UCLA won the race with a time of 7:55.359, and San Diego claimed the third C Final berth at 8:00.354.
The Terriers will conclude their eighth NCAA appearance on Sunday with the varsity four D Final set to take place at 8:30 a.m.
