CENTER VALLEY, Pa. - The Boston University golf team will now be eligible for an automatic bid to the NCAA tournament with the addition of Richmond as an associate member of the Patriot League, the conference announced on Thursday.
For the first time in program history, BU will have a chance to automatically qualify for the NCAA tournament. The Terriers finished second at the 2014 Patriot League Championship in their inaugural year in the conference and will return four of the five players that teed off in that event.
Richmond becomes the sixth school to sponsor golf in the Patriot League. Joining the Spiders and Terriers are Bucknell, Holy Cross, Lehigh and Navy. Golf will enter its third season in the Patriot League in 2014-15.
