BOSTON - Coming off a triumphant road win in its Patriot League opener, the Boston University field hockey team (3-3) returns to New Balance Field to host Yale (1-4) on Sunday. Game time is set for 4 p.m. Weather permitting, the contest will be broadcast on the Patriot League Network. Thanks to the first points of freshman Kali Shumock's collegiate career, the Terriers posted a 2-1 victory at Lafayette on Saturday afternoon. The rookie, playing near her hometown of Bethlehem, opened the scoring late in the first half before assisting on sophomore Amanda Cassera's game winner.
Yale, which dropped a 4-1 contest at Harvard in its Ivy League opener on Saturday, earned its lone win thus far against neighbor Quinnipiac in overtime.
Sophomore Kelsey Nolan leads the Elis in goals (2) and points (4) while four other Bulldogs have recorded one goal this season. In goal, senior Heather Schlesier has played every minute thus far and has a .735 save percentage to go along with a 2.35 goals-against average.
Cassera raised her team-high totals in goals (4) and points (8) with her game winner on Saturday. Junior Sofi Laurito has added six points on two goals and a team-best two assists. Senior Valentina Cerda Eimbcke improved her season numbers on Saturday and now sports a 1.84 goals-against average and a .684 save percentage.
BU is 8-3-1 in 12 meetings against the Bulldogs. The teams last met in the 2012 regular-season finale, which the Terriers won, 2-0, in New Haven. Only three current Terriers (Laurito, Katie Bernatchez, Rachel Coll) played in that victory.
Through six games, the Terriers and their opponents are even in scoring in both the first (4-4) and second (6-6) halves.
