WASHINGTON, D.C. - The Boston University women's basketball team struggled to finish their shots and fell to American, 75-45 on Wednesday night in Bender Arena. With the win, the Eagles remain perfect in conference play with a 7-0 record.
The Terriers had more shot attempts than American but they only connected on 25.9 percent of their shots, going 15-of-58 from the field. The Eagles, however, converted 51 percent of their shots, going 26-of-51 and tallied 18 points from the charity stripe.
Meghan Green led the Terriers with 12 points while Troi Melton matched her career-high with 11 points. Green also contributed a team-leading eight rebounds.
Five Eagles were in double-figure scoring with Emily Kinneston leading American with 15 points. Curtis finished with 11 points and a team-leading eight rebounds while Zimmerman had a quiet second half and finished with 10 points.
Turnovers were costly for the Terriers, who committed 16 that turned into 21 points toward the Eagles' total. BU also struggled to convert second-chance opportunities, totaling just 13 points despite grabbing 15 offensive rebounds.
The Terriers started off winning the tip and scoring on the opening possession but their fast start was quickly halted by an 8-0 run that gave American an 8-2 lead early in the contest. The Eagles did not relent throughout the first half and went into halftime with a 39-17 lead, holding BU to its worst performance in a half since it scored just 14 points in the opening period against Holy Cross.
BU was unable to cut into the lead for the remainder of the game and American steadily built its advantage until it reached the largest differential of the contest (32 points) with less than 30 seconds to play. The Terriers were held to just 45 points, its worst offensive output of the season.
Boston U. is back in action on Saturday when the Terriers travel to Bucknell for a 2 p.m. tip.
