December 14, 2015 | Women's Ice Hockey
WAKEFIELD, Mass. - Sophomore Erin O'Neil of the Boston University women's ice hockey team was named Hockey East Defensive Player of the Week, the league announced on Monday.
O'Neil was outstanding on Wednesday night at Providence, stopping all 27 shots she faced to earn her first collegiate shutout. Her efforts helped BU earn a 6-0 win and enter the semester break with a 7-1-1 record in its last nine games. O'Neil was particularly sharp in the second stanza, as she made 15 saves to help BU enter the third period with a 3-0 advantage.
A native of Minnetonka, Minnesota, O'Neil lowered her goals-against average to 2.70 and improved her save percentage to .909. She is 9-2-1 this season and has not lost since Nov. 7 against Boston College. The Terriers will look to avenge that defeat on Jan. 9 when they welcome the No. 1 Eagles to Walter Brown Arena.
