December 2, 2015 | Women's Ice Hockey
CALGARY, Alta. - Sophomores Victoria Bach and Rebecca Leslie will join former Terrier Jenelle Kohanchuk on Team Canada's roster for the 2016 Nations Cup, Hockey Canada announced on Wednesday.
The trio is part of a 22-player squad that will travel to Füssen, Germany, for the tournament which will be held Jan. 4-7. Bach was part of the Canadian team that won gold at last year's event and also skated with Leslie for Canada in a three-game series against the United States in August. Kohanchuk, who was centralized with the national team prior to the 2014 Olympics, will be participating in this tournament for the fourth time.
Bach and Leslie are in the midst of terrific sophomore campaigns at BU. Leslie was runner-up for Hockey East Player of the Month honors in November after she led the NCAA with 12 assists and scored a point in more games (8) than any other skater in the country. She has 24 points on five goals and 19 helpers this season. Bach is second on the team in points with 20 thanks to nine goals and 11 assists.
Prior to its opening game on Jan. 4 against Sweden in Füssen, Canada will play three pre-tournament games in St. Pölten, Austria, facing Austria (Dec. 30), Hungary (Dec. 31) and the Czech Republic (Jan. 2).
The Nations Cup, formerly known as the Air Canada Cup, MLP Cup and Meco Cup, brings together Canada’s National Women’s Development Team and national teams from Finland, Germany, Russia, Sweden and Switzerland for a four-day international tournament.
