CHESTNUT HILL, Mass. - Concluding a three-game series against Army, the Boston University softball team dropped a 6-3 decision to the Black Knights on Sunday afternoon at Boston College's Shea Field.

Army (18-19, 8-4 PL) jumped out with three runs in the first and added three more in the fifth before holding off a late BU rally to defeat the Terriers (8-23, 1-7 PL).

Sophomore Moriah Connolly, senior Emily Felbaum and junior Lauren Hynes led BU with two hits apiece with senior Kendra Meadows collecting a team-high two RBIs. The Terriers owned a 9-8 advantage in hits but were unable to string them together, as the Black Knights' top three hitters went a combined 6-of-12 with three RBIs and six runs scored.

Army opened the game with back-to-back doubles and added a pair of singles in the first against junior Melanie Russell (2-6) to grab the 3-0 lead. The Terriers had an opportunity to cut into the deficit in the bottom half with a runners at the corners and one out. However, the Black Knights escaped the inning by earning a pick-off and caught stealing on the same play.

Russell settled down and did not allow a hit over the next three innings, but the Black Knights posted four hits in the fifth to extend their lead to 6-0. Kasey McCravey followed up Saturday's grand slam with a solo shot to start the fifth. Army used a single and sacrifice fly for the other two runs.

The Terriers began mounting their rally in the bottom of the fifth with Meadows hitting a single to right-center to plate both Felbaum and senior Mandy Fernandez. One inning later, Hynes hit a double down the left field line and scored on Felbaum's single to cut the deficit to three.

During the seventh with a runner at first, Army's Tyler McKinney for the second consecutive game ended the contest with a stellar dive into the left-center gap.

BU will next visit nearby rival Harvard on Tuesday (April 14) at 3 p.m.
