Women's Rowing Set for Eastern Sprints on Sunday

The Boston University women's openweight and lightweight rowing teams will race at the 41th annual EAWRC Sprints Championships on Sunday in Camden, N.J. The Terriers will send a total of nine boats to the prestigious competition with racing beginning at 8 a.m.
"We are ready for 2 hard races this weekend at Sprints," said director of women's rowing Stacey Rippetoe. "Women's Sprints has been on BU's Championship schedule for decades and our team is proud to continue that tradition. We're prepared to get faster and sharper in a heat and final format before the Patriot League Championships. This year, we have a 13 team field in the NCAA events and will be racing six openweight and three lightweight crews. We are anticipating fast racing at Sprints and we'll be bringing our best to the start line."
In the openweight competition, the varsity eight boats will be broken into three heats, with the top two advancing to the grand final.
In the first heat race of the day, the V8 boat will face off against crews from Buffalo, Northeastern, Harvard an West Virginia. The Terriers have already faced and defeated Buffalo earlier in their duel season.
Last year, the BU openweights advanced three boats to the grand finals highlighted by the 3V8 boat winning a bronze medal.
In the afternoon lightweights competition, BU will compete against crews from Princeton, Harvard, Wisconsin, and Georgetown and will not compete in heat racing as all boats compete in the grand finals. The No. 4 ranked varsity eight boat will race at 12:45 p.m.
Last year the BU lightweights, competing in just their second Eastern Sprints, finished third in a field of four in overall team points behind only Harvard and Wisconsin. The Terriers finished ahead of Princeton on the strength of a gold medal win in the 2V8 and a third place finish in both the 4A and novice 4 races.
