KIAWAH ISLAND, S.C. - Senior Adela Cejnarova made program history this weekend at the Palmetto Intercollegiate, becoming the first Terrier to record two rounds under 70 at one tournament en route to a new 54-hole record.
Cejnarova carded a 69 (-3) in each of the final two rounds on Monday and Tuesday to finish tied for third in the 105-player field. She began the 54-hole event with a 78 and finished at even par (216) for the tournament, which was held at the Turtle Point course at the Kiawah Island Resort. That 216 tops Emily Tillo's 54-hole record of 218, set last spring. Tillo still holds the single-round program record of 68.
A native of Prague, Czech Republic, Cejnarova has now completed a round of 69 five different times in her collegiate career. She finished the fall season on a roll, with three of her last four rounds coming in at 69.
"Adela is one of the hottest players in the country right now," head coach Bruce Chalas said. "It's a great way to finish the fall - her and the team are just warming up for the spring."
"It feels really good," Cejnarova said of her record-setting weekend. "I've been playing well and it's finally all coming together. To finish near the top of the leaderboard, especially in tournaments like these with really strong fields, gives me lots of momentum."
BU improved its score in each round this weekend to finish 12th out fo 20 teams at 921. The Terriers combined for a final-round score of 301 after shooting 315 on Sunday and 305 on Monday. Four Terriers shot 78 or better on Tuesday.
Sophomore Megan Carter fired three straight rounds in the 70s (77-77-78) to finish 55th (232). Freshman Zhangcheng Guo finished strong on Tuesday with a 76 to complete a three-day score of 240 (81-83-76) while classmate Abby Parsons totaled a 242 (79-85-78). Junior Phyllis Tang recorded a second-round 76 en route to a total of 244 (86-76-82).
This was the final tournament of the fall for the Terriers, who will begin their spring season in Feburary.
