Terriers Run Honan 5K Road Race in Allston on Sunday
September 26, 2016 | Men's Rowing, Student-Athlete Academic Support Services
More than 70 Boston University student-athletes participated in the Brian J. Honan 5K Run/Walk in Allston on Sunday. Members of the men's rowing team and women's lightweight rowing team ran the 3.1 mile course to help raise money for the Brian Honan Charitable Fund which provides scholarships for Allston-Brighton school children. This year, over 1,500 runners participated in the event.
"It was great to come out here on a Sunday and sweat it out a little bit, especially when its for a good cause," said senior Mike Kapp, captain of the men's rowing team. "It is great to get everyone together and enjoy the afternoon."
Boston University sponsored over 200 volunteer runners from all across the BU community. The money raised through the Honan 5K benefits the scholarship funds of the Allston and Brighton Board of Trade. The race also benefits the Honan Family Charitable Fund which donates to local and national programs that support education, recreation, housing and healthcare.
The Terriers were joined at the starting line by Boston Mayor Martin Walsh who posed for photos with the Terriers and thanked each personally for their participation.
The race was part of Boston University's Student Athlete Advisory Council's (SAAC) ongoing community outreach initiative. For more information about the Brian J. Honan Charitable Fund and the organizations it helps click HERE
