Hankerson Eclipses 1,000-Point Milestone as Terriers Fall at UConn, 85-66

HARTFORD, Conn. – Despite senior Cedric Hankerson scoring a season-high 20 points and classmate Nick Havener posting his first double-double of the season, the Boston University men's basketball team fell to UConn, 85-66, on Sunday evening at the XL Center.
With their second win over the Patriot League this year, the Huskies improve to 3-0, while the Terriers now sit at 0-3. UConn featured four men in double figures, including a career-high 30 points from Christian Vital.

- After Hankerson drained one of his five 3-pointers to pull the Terriers within five, Antwoine Anderson hit one of his own just before the buzzer to give the Huskies a 39-31 halftime lead.
- UConn started the second half by forcing a BU turnover and then scoring five straight off a tip-in and 3-pointer to push its lead to double digits for good.
- The Terriers had multiple chances to stage a rally but couldn't carry any momentum by going 5-of-12 from the free throw line in the second half and 10-of-21 for the game.
- BU scored eight of the game's first nine points with sophomore Tyler Scanlon hitting a jumper at 19:03 and a 3-pointer at 15:!5 to give the Terriers their largest lead of the game.
- Havener hit his third career 3-pointer at 13:09 to maintain the seven-point advantage (11-4), but UConn went on a 12-2 run keyed by three long buckets, including a 3-pointer, at 9:22.
- Trailing 18-17 with 7:10 left in the half, Hankerson scored from behind the arc and then grabbed a defensive rebound before drawing a goaltending call at 6:43 to give the Terriers their final lead of the game, 22-18.
- Vital scored 12 of the Huskies' final 21 points of the half to help UConn grab an eight-point halftime lead.
- With his 13th career 20+ point performance, Hankerson became the 36th Terrier to reach 1,000 points ... With five treys on 11 attempts, he now ranks sixth all-time at BU with 195 3-pointers and 34th in career points (1,015).
- Havener posted a game and season-high 10 rebounds with 16 points, three assists and two blocks to claim his sixth career double-double.
- Sophomore Tyler Scanlon was the third Terrier in double figures with 12 points.
- UConn improved to 44-12 all-time with their sixth straight win in the series that dates back to 1930-31.
- Both teams finished with 10 3-pointers, but the Huskies doubled BU in points in the paint, 36-18.
- The Terriers were without the services of both sophomore Destin Barnes and senior Cheddi Mosely due to injury ... The duo were averaging a combined 13.5 ppg.
- The Terriers will remain on the road and travel to Maine for a 2 p.m. tip-off on Wednesday (Nov. 22) at the Cross Insurance Center in Bangor.
- BU won last year's matchup, 102-78, by shooting 69 percent from the field in the second half to eclipse 100 points for the first time in 22 years.
- BU leads the all-time series, 60-41, and will be visiting the former America East rival for the first time since leaving the conference in the summer of 2013.
