Men's Basketball Falls at Harvard, 74-63

ALLSTON, Mass. – Despite featuring the game's top two leading scorers, the Boston University men's basketball team ended the non-conference schedule with a 74-63 loss at Harvard on Thursday night.
Clinging to a two-point halftime lead, the Crimson (5-6) held the Terriers to 38.1 percent shooting in the second stanza to improve to a perfect 3-0 at Lavietes Pavilion. Sophomore Max Mahoney led BU with 16 points, while freshman Javante McCoy contributed 15 points and two steals.
TURNING POINT

TURNING POINT
- Leading, 39-35, with 16:47 left in regulation, Harvard hit a turnaround jumper and then took advantage of a BU turnover and intentional foul with two free throws and a layup to extend the lead to 10 points.
- The Terriers used 3-pointers from McCoy and senior Eric Johnson to pull within five (47-42) at 13:19, but the Crimson used a 9-2 spurt over the following three minutes to keep the lead in double digits for the rest of the game.
- Harvard opened the game on a 10-3 run with four straight field goals from Weisner Perez and layup by Chris Egi at 15:09.
- Corey Johnson drained a 3-pointer at 12:14 to push the advantage to double digits for the first time (18-8), and Christian Juzang hit one of his own at 7:41 to give Harvard its largest lead of the half, 26-14.
- Facing a 36-26 deficit with 2:29 remaining, the Terriers finished the half by scoring the final eight points.
- Sophomore Tyler Scanlon scored on a putback and flushed the 3-pointer on a pass from McCoy just before the buzzer to pull within two (36-34).
- Scanlon was the third Terrier in double figures with 11 points while posting a team-high six rebounds, three assists and two steals.
- Already without senior Cheddi Mosely and sophomore Destin Barnes for the season due to injury, the Terriers lost starting senior Nick Havener (9.4 ppg, 5.3 rpg) seven minutes into the first half for the rest of the contest due to injury.
- The Crimson shot 26-of-47 (.553) and 9-of-20 (.450) from behind the arc, as the Terriers went 20-of-45 (.444) and 8-of-22 (.364), respectively.
- BU converted 19 Harvard turnovers into 24 points.
- Harvard improved to 40-27 all-time in the series with its eighth straight victory.
- The Terriers will open conference play at home against the Black Knights on Friday, Dec. 29 with a 7 p.m. start time.
- Both home teams won last season with BU claiming a 90-89 overtime victory at Case Gym and the Black Knights pulling out a 73-62 victory.
