BOSTON – The Boston University men's rowing team will open its 2017 spring season vs. Brown on Sunday, April 2. The morning of racing will begin on the Charles River at 7:50 a.m. with the 4+ race and conclude at 9:10 a.m. when the V8 boats race for the Michalson Cup.

Sunday will mark the 58th meeting in the long history between the two teams. The competition between the two schools dates back to 1959 while the Michalson Cup, named for former Brown University coach Victor H. Michalson, was added to the race series in 1984.

"The team is very excited to open up the spring season on Sunday," said head men's rowing coach Thomas Bohrer. "Brown is one of the best teams in the league so it will be a good test of speed for our first race."

This spring, the Terriers will look to improve on their 2016 duel season that saw the V8 finish 5-1 in cup races. Last season, BU's V8 lost its first cup race of the year at Brown on March 26 but won all of its cup races the rest of the way. With a victory on Sunday, BU would be in possession of all six cups from its annual cup races for the first time. BU has held five of the six cups for each of the last two years.

On Sunday, the Terriers V8 boat will be trying to capture the Michalson Cup for the first time since 2011. No race was held between the two schools in 2012 or 2015.

This weekend's racing will mark the first actual competition for BU since competing in the Foot of the Charles back on Nov. 15th. After Sunday's contest, BU will take on arch rival Northeastern on April 9th and look to win the Arlett Cup for the third-consecutive year.
