HOW IT HAPPENED
- In the varsity eight race, BU jumped out to a quick lead and then pulled away from Northeastern by a length after a mis-stroke by the NU boat in the first 200 meters. Coxed by junior MacKenzie Hart and stroked by junior Max Ponsen, the 1V kept up the pressure and stretched its lead to open water at the 1000 meter mark. BU did not let the Huskies gain any ground over the second half of the race and won by open water. The Terriers crossed the finish line with a time of 6:13.5, well ahead of NU's time of 6:18.3.
- The victory was BU's third-consecutive Arlett Cup victory for the Terriers, marking the first time in series history that BU has beaten NU three-consecutive times.
- In the second varsity eight race, BU got off to a fast start and opened an early three seat lead over NU that it held at the MIT bridge. But Northeastern pushed back and caught BU at the 1000 meter mark. NU pulled ahead of the Terriers and despite a late push by BU, held off the Terriers at the line to win a close race. The Northeaster 2V crossed the line in 6:26.5 while BU came in at 6:27.1.
- In the first race of the day, BU's fourth varsity eight boat had an excellent performance, defeating the BU and NU 3V boats. Coxed by sophomore Jeane Garnerand stroked by senior Peter Roberts, BU 4V lead early and didn't look back, finishing ahead of the of second-place Northeastern by open water. The BU 4V crossed the line with a time of 6:24.8 while NU just edged the BU 3V by a bow ball (6:29.3 to 6:29.6).
NOTES
- Sunday's race was originally scheduled for Saturday but was moved due to windy conditions on the Charles.
- With Sunday's victory over Northeastern and last week's victory over Brown, BU is still in possession of all six of its annual cups.
