BETHLEHEM, Pa. - The Boston University men's cross country team competed in the Paul Short Run at Lehigh on Friday morning.
With much of the team battling illness, BU finished 22nd in the 40-team field with 599 points. Utah State won the 8K race with 119 points. Over 359 runners participated in Friday's event.
"Part of running is keeping healthy, and we're not healthy," head coach Paul Spangler said. "The good thing is that sickness goes away. To fight through it today, given the circumstances, they should be commended."
Junior Alexander Seal was the top finisher for the Terriers, crossing the finish line in 54th place (24:28). Sophomore Brett Davidson was not far behind Seal in 64th place thanks to a time of 24:31. Sophomore Greg Pelose (25:06) and junior Johnny Kemps (25:07) were 143rd and 145th, respectively, while senior Cullin Burdett (25:27) rounded out the Terrier scorers.
"I thought Brett ran great, and Alex toughed out being sick for a solid race," Spangler said.
Sophomore Zachary Prescott (25:38), junior Liam O'Connell (26:10), freshman Scotti Hamilton (26:20), freshman Logan Broedner (26:31) and sophomore Paul Luevano (26:39) also raced for BU on Friday.
The Terriers will enjoy a weekend off before heading to Louisville on Oct. 14 for Pre-Nationals.
"We've got to get healthy and get some rest," Spangler said. "We didn't perform well today, but it will be extra motivation for our next race. They know they can run better, and we'll be ready for Pre-Nationals."
