BOSTON – Highlighted by a doubles run to the quarterfinals, the Boston University women's tennis team competed over the weekend at the ITA Northeast Regionals at Yale's Cullman-Heyman Tennis Center.

Besides having success in doubles, the Terriers also had four singles participants in the round of 64 for the first time since 2011. Both sophomores Emily Kim and Lily Burchell collected a pair of victories in the qualifying draw and followed up with thrilling three-set Round of 96 wins to join both senior Remi Ramos and freshman Shelly Yaloz.

Kim and Yaloz are now 9-1 together in doubles through three fall tournaments after becoming the first Terrier duo to reach the quarterfinals at the Regionals since Johanna Hyoty and Leonie-Charlotte Athanasiadis accomplished the feat in 2013. They opened with an 8-4 win over Rhode Island and then dispatched Cornell, 8-6. In the Round of 16 on Sunday morning, they held off Rutgers in the tiebreaker for the 8-7(5) win to reach the quarters. Featuring one half of the nation's No. 4 ranked doubles team in Gabriela Knutson, Syracuse eliminated the Terriers, 8-6, in another tightly-contested matchup.

A participant in last spring's NCAA tournament, Syracuse also eliminated both Kim and Burchell in the Round of 64 during singles action in straight sets. Ramos rallied to defeat UConn's Julianne Boy, 4-6, 7-6, 6-4, to reach the next round but fell victim to a three-set rally by Princeton's Stephane Schrage, 4-6, 6-2, 6-1. Yaloz also fell in three sets to Rutgers in her first singles appearance at the ITAs.

The Terriers will next conclude the fall slate at the Harvard Invitational on Nov. 2-4.
