Strong Second Half Propels Navy Past Terriers, 59-48

ANNAPOLIS, Md. – Visiting Navy for a Saturday evening tilt at Alumni Hall, the Mids used a strong second half to pull away and hand the Boston University women's basketball a 59-48 defeat.

- Payton Hauck hit a pair from the line before Corrine Williams connected from deep to give the Terriers their first lead at 5-3 just over minutes into the game.
- BU and Navy exchanged baskets over the final seven minutes, while Tenisha Pressley's free throws capped the quarter the put the scoreboard in favor of the Terriers, 13-12.
- The Mids used the 3-pointer to start the second quarter, connecting on three straight to push its lead to 23-15.
- Irving kept the Terriers in the game by scoring nine straight points before Payton Hauck hit from deep to knot the score at 25-all with just over a minute left in the half.
- Continuing to stay hot from deep, Navy hit its fourth 3-pointer of the frame to grab a 28-25 edge at the break.
- Katie Nelson scored 10 seconds into the third quarter, but the Terriers went cold as Navy continued to scorch BU from deep en route to reeling off an 8-2 run to start the second half.
- BU could not find its rhythm in the third, as it shot just 2-of-16 from the floor, but stayed within single digits as Navy led 40-31 at the end of the quarter.
- Irving knocked down the first 3-pointer of her career to start the fourth, putting BU within two possessions, but the six-point deficit would be the closest the Terriers would get as Navy completed the season sweep.
- Naiyah Thompson provided a bright spot in the second half, contributing eight points and a team-high eight rebounds.
- Irving led BU in scoring for the fifth straight game and has amassed double-digit scoring figures in each of those contests.
- The Terriers fell to 0-5 at Alumni Hall and 2-9 all-time against Navy.
- BU turned the ball over a season-high 27 times.
- Navy scored 10 of its 12 points in the first quarter off turnovers and scored 34 for the game off miscues.
- BU is 1-7 in Saturday games this season.
- The Terriers will stay on the road to take on Lafayette on Wednesday, Feb. 21 for a 7 p.m. start.
