Terriers Fall to Dartmouth in Bill Cup Race

RESULTS
HANOVER, N.H. - The No. 9 Boston University varsity eight boat fell to No. 8 Dartmouth on Saturday, losing a hard-fought race by a length. The Terriers jumped out to an early lead but Dartmouth fought back and pulled ahead over the final 500 meters to take the victory.
After 11-consecutive BU victories from 2006-2016, Dartmouth has now won two-consecutive Bill Cups for the first time since 2004-2005.

HOW IT HAPPENED
Varsity eight
In the final race of the morning, the No. 9 BU varsity eight boat took on No. 8 Dartmouth in the annual race for the Bill Cup. The BU V8, coxed by Sean Dooling and stroked by Jacob Barker, got off to a good start and built a three-quarter length lead at the 1000m mark. No. 8 Dartmouth began to come back on BU over the third 500 and caught the Terriers around the 1500 meter mark. Dartmouth charged ahead by a full length before BU fought back over the final 100 and cut into the lead but the Big Green held on to win by a quarter length (5:20.65 to 5:22.96).
Dartmouth has now won two-consecutive Bill Cups for the first time since 2004-2005 after 11-consecutive BU victories from 2006-2016.
Second varsity eight
The second varsity eight boat, coxed Justin Goucher and stroked by Nils Kocher, fell behind after a fast start by Dartmouth. The Big Green extended their lead over the second half of the course and won by open water.
Third varsity eight
The third varsity eight boat, coxed Jeanne Garner and stroked by Andrew Dellechiaie, had a good start and pulled ahead early. The BU 3V extended its lead throughout the race and led by a length and a quarter down the stretch and cruised to the finish line with a convincing victory.
Varsity four
The 4+, coxed by Grace Heavey and stroked by Tommaso Ferme, raced in a three-boat race against the Dartmouth 4A and 4B boats. BU got out early and seemed to be in control of the race but caught a crab at the 800 meter mark. The BU 4V could not make up the deficit and finished third.
UP NEXT
The Terriers will return home to take on Syracuse (Conlan Cup) and Columbia (Lusins Cup) on Saturday, April 21.
