WORCESTER, MA - The Boston University men's rowing team will compete at the 73rd annual Eastern Sprints Championships on Sunday, sending five boats to compete on Lake Quinsigamond in Worcester, Mass. The Terriers will look to build on last year's performance when they advanced three boats to the grand finals, won bronze in the second varsity eight grand final and placed fourth overall as a team.
The long day of racing begins with heat competitions at 8 a.m. and concludes with the varsity eight grand final at 5:30 p.m.
"We have been training for Sprints all year so I am really excited to see our crews race on Sunday," said head men's rowing coach Thomas Bohrer. "You can feel the energy in the team the past few weeks. Boats have been getting faster all season and I feel we are hitting our stride right now which is what we want. We'll also be fielding 4 eights as we got a few guys back that have been injured during the season. This is good for the program to have 4 BU eights racing on Sunday."
BU's first race will be at 8:00 a.m. when the Terriers' No. 9 seeded fourth varsity eight boat races against No. 1 Princeton, No. 4 Navy, No. 5 Dartmouth and No. 7 Wisconsin with the top three boats advancing to the grand final.
At 8:50 a.m., BU's No. 8 seeded third varsity eight will face off against No. 2 Princeton, No. 5 Brown and No. 11 Cornell with the top two boats moving on to the grand final.
BU's varsity eight boat is seeded 6 by the EARC and will race at 9:12 a.m. against No. 1 seeded Yale, No. 7 Syracuse, No. 12 George Washington and No. 13 Navy with the top 2 boats going to the grand final.
The BU 2V8 is ranked No. 7 and will race at 10:12 a.m. against No. 1 NU, No. 6 Dartmouth, No. 12 Columbus and No. 13 Navy.
In the afternoon, men's heavyweight finals racing will begin with the fourth varsity eight grand final at 1:48 p.m. and conclude with the varsity eight grand final at 5:30 p.m.

After Sunday's competition, the Terriers will head to the IRA National Championship Regatta in Mercer, N.J. on June 1-3.
