Women's Basketball Readies for Wednesday Tilt at Lafayette

BOSTON - Coming off its first-ever win at Alumni Hall, the Boston University women's basketball team will cap a two-game road trip at Lafayette in a rematch of last season's Patriot League Tournament opening round game on Wednesday, Jan. 30. Opening tip from the Kirby Sports Center is scheduled for 6 p.m. and can be seen live on the Patriot League Network.
TERRIER TIDBITS
- BU outscored Navy 21-4 in the third quarter, sparking the Terriers to snap a three-game losing streak with a 49-35 victory on Saturday.
- Katie Nelson led the Terriers with a season-high 23 points, including 18 in the second, and went 9-for-15 shooting from the floor.
- Riley Childs posted her third nine-rebound game of the season and followed Nelson with eight points.
- The 35 points were the fewest the Terriers have allowed in a game since topping Loyola Maryland, 40-35, March 4, 2014.
- Nelson has been heating up offensively, recording double-digit scoring figures in six of the last eight games after scoring in double figures four times through the first 10 games.
- Lauren Spearman has accounted for 46 of the team's 91 makes from beyond-the-arc, good for 50.5 percent.
- Nia Irving has scored in double figures in 13 of the last 14 games, scoring at least 15 points in six of those contests, and has four double-doubles on the season.
- After missing two games due to injury, Childs has returned to average 8.6 points and 7.6 rebounds over the last four games.
- Childs is also shooting 68.0 percent from the floor over those games and has averaged 25.0 minutes.
SCOUTING LAFAYETTE
- The Leopards are off to a 2-6 start in conference games and stand at 7-12 overall, with five of its wins coming at the Kirby Sports Center.
- All six of its Patriot League defeats have been decided by a double-digit margin.
- Natalie Kucowski leads the league with 1.0 blocks per game and ranks third in both scoring (14.3) and rebounding (10.7).
- One of three players in the league to average a double-double, the sophomore owns nine double-doubles this season, matching her total from the 2017-18 campaign.
- Fellow sophomores Olivia Martino (10.0) and Drew Freeland (8.7) follow Kucowski in scoring average.
- The 3-point specialists have combined for 52.6 percent of Lafayette's total triples this season (49-93), as Freeland is shooting 36.6 percent to Martino's 33.3 percent clip from beyond-the-arc.
THE SERIES
- Lafayette swept the last season's regular season series, winning both games by one possession, and knocked the Terriers off in the first round of the Patriot League Tournament.
- BU leads the all-time series 12-8, but Lafayette holds the upper hand at 7-4 since BU joined the Patriot League.
