Compher, Schroeder Secure Monthly Awards
January 3, 2019 | Women's Ice Hockey
WAKEFIELD, Mass. - Sophomores Jesse Compher and Corinne Schroeder of the Boston University women's ice hockey team each earned monthly awards from Hockey East, the league announced on Thursday.
Both Compher and Schroeder shined in December for the Terriers as the duo helped guide BU to a 3-1-1 record to close out 2018. Compher collected her first Hockey East Player of the Month award while the league recognized Schroeder as its Goaltender of the Month for the first time.
No other player in the nation had more points (11) or assists (8) in December than Compher. She recorded at least two points in three of the Terriers' five games, including a career-best five points and four assists in an 8-0 win at RIT on Dec. 8. Compher also notched a goal and an assist in a 4-2 victory over then-No. 4 Boston College on Dec. 1. She enters this weekend ranked first in Hockey East and third in the country with 32 points (11g, 21a), with those 21 assists good for second in the nation.
Schroeder was nearly unbeatable in four December starts for BU. She posted a .964 save percentage, best among Division I goalies that made at least two starts, and a 1.02 goals-against average en route to a 3-0-1 record in the final month of 2018. Schroeder began the month with a 37-save performance in a 4-2 win over BC on Dec. 1 and then followed that by stopping 49 of the 50 shots she faced in a weekend sweep at RIT. The sophomore then closed the month with 20 saves in a 1-1 tie with Penn State on Dec. 30. Schroeder has not allowed an even-strength goal in her last 195:00 of work and has only given up one goal in her last 120:47 of play.
BU will return to the ice this weekend when the Terriers travel to Maine for a two-game series with the Black Bears.
