Terriers Conclude Season at NCAA Northeast Regional
November 15, 2019 | Men's Cross Country
BUFFALO, N.Y. – The Boston University men's cross country team concluded its season on Friday afternoon at the NCAA Northeast Regional, hosted by the University at Buffalo.
BU finished 18th in the 37-team field with a score of 479 points. The Terriers finished ahead of Patriot League foes Holy Cross (918) and Colgate (961).
Redshirt junior Brett Davidson led the Terriers with a 39th-place effort. He posted a personal-best 10K time of 29:45.2. Senior Paul Luevano finished 45th with a time of 29:51.2 while freshman Foster Malleck was 98th with a time of 30:40.7.
" I thought Brett did a good job up front," head coach Paul Spangler said. "Paul did a solid job to hang on the way he did to get under 30:00. Foster didn't get out well but moved up quite a bit throughout the race and I thought he ran a really good time."
Senior Greg Pelose (31:19.9) and freshman Kevin Murphy (31:34.4) rounded out the Terrier scorers. Freshman Rylan Pettit (32:07.8) and sophomore Marcel Aubry (32:24.4) also competed.
"We didn't have the production from our No. 4 and No. 5 that we needed to achieve our team goal, but we have a good young core that got some good experience today at a really competitive meet," Spangler said. "We just have to continue to get better."
The Terriers concluded their year with three top-five finishes in six races, including a third-place performance at the Patriot League Championship. Luevano became just the sixth runner in conference history to earn All-Patriot League accolades all four years while Davidson received First Team All-Patriot League honors.
"With the young group that we have, I'm really looking forward to seeing how these men progress and move up the conference rankings." Spangler said. "We want to build a team that can go to nationals."
The Terriers will now turn their attention to the indoor track & field schedule, which begins on Saturday, Dec. 7, with the Sharon Colyear-Danville Season Opener at the Track and Tennis Center.
"We feel pretty good going into the indoor season," Spangler said. 'We're stronger on the track, especially with someone like Marcel in the 800 and mile. I think we can build upon our conference finish and have a good track season."
