Davis, Compher Invited to USA Hockey Winter Training Camp
November 21, 2019 | Women's Ice Hockey
COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. – Redshirt senior co-captain Sammy Davis and junior Jesse Compher of the Boston University women's ice hockey team were selected to participate in the 2019 USA Hockey Women's Winter Training Camp, as announced by USA Hockey Thursday afternoon.
The training camp will run from Dec. 9-13 at the XL Center in Hartford, Connecticut — two days after the Terriers play their final matchup of the calendar year against rival Boston College on Dec. 7. Of the 46 players selected to this year's Winter Training Camp, 23 will go on to compete in the Rivalry Series against Canada, beginning on Dec. 14 at the XL Center.
Compher and Davis have been instrumental in the Terriers' strong start this season. Davis is tied for the team lead in points with 13 (5g, 8a) and most recently found the back of the net in her squad's 6-2 win over Harvard on Tuesday. Although Compher missed the first nine games of the year due to injury, she has made an immediate impact upon her return to the lineup, having notched four points in as many games. The Northbrook, Illinois, native also had a stellar night against the Crimson, scoring two goals and an assist.
International play is not new for the pair, as Compher aided the U.S. Women's National Team to its fifth straight gold medal at the 2019 Women's World Championship in April. Compher also claimed gold while representing the U.S. Under-18 Team in 2016 and 2017, while Davis won gold in 2015 with U.S. Under-18 Team and served as an assistant captain. Both players were invited to the 2019 USA Hockey Women's National Festival in Lake Placid, N.Y., in August.
The annual winter training camp serves as an opportunity to help the top players prepare for upcoming international events, including the 2019-20 Rivalry Series and the 2020 IIHF Women's World Championship. The Rivalry Series includes five games. In addition to the opening two games in December, the U.S. and Canada will also meet on Feb. 3 in Victoria, British Columbia, Feb. 5 in Vancouver, British Columbia and Feb. 8 in Anaheim, Calif.
