ALLSTON, Mass. - Tournament MVP Sammy Davis scored 13:28 into overtime to lift the No. 7 Boston University women's ice hockey team to its first Women's Beanpot title since 1981 in a thrilling 3-2 victory over Harvard on Tuesday evening at Bright-Landry Hockey Center. 

Davis, a junior tri-captain, slid on her left knee along the inner edge of the left circle to execute a perfect back-door finish off a pass by sophomore Jesse Compher on a power play to give the Terriers their first Beanpot crown as a varsity program.

The Terriers overcame a 51-save performance by Harvard goaltender Lindsay Reed and were bolstered by an impressive 30-save effort by sophomore Corinne Schroeder, who made nine of her stops in overtime.

HOW IT HAPPENED

• The teams traded power-play goals late in the opening period to head into the first intermission in a 1-1 deadlock.
• Senior Reagan Rust, last week's shootout hero, found the back of the net from the right point to give BU the first lead at 18:28 of the first on assists from redshirt junior Abbey Stanley and junior Natasza Tarnowski.
• Sophomore Kristina Schuler took her first of three penalties on the night less than a minute after the Rust goal and the Crimson got a quick equalizer.
• Harvard used the player advantage once again in the middle stanza to take the lead as Kristin Della Rovere made it 2-1 in favor of the home team with a goal exactly five minutes into the second.
• The teams once again headed into an intermission tied thanks to a goal from the stick of Tarnowski. 
• After a saved shot by junior Abby Cook, Tarnowski pushed the puck just far enough under Reed to cross the goal line and make it a 2-2 affair with 4:32 remaining in the second.
• Neither team was able to get a winner in the third despite BU getting back-to-back power-play chances late in regulation.
• Moments after Schroeder came up with huge back-to-back stops in the extra session, junior Deziray De Sousa drew a Harvard roughing penalty while crashing the net, setting up the decisive power play.

GAME NOTES

• BU extended its nation-best undefeated streak to 11 games (9-0-2) with the win.
• The Terriers' lone previous Beanpot crown came in 1981 as a club team.
• Since that title, BU had come up short in five straight championship games, including four as a varsity program with the past two coming in overtime.
• The first three penalties of the game resulted in power-play goals.
• BU went 2-for-4 on the player advantage while the Crimson went 2-of-3.
• The Terriers improve to 17-6-7 on the year while Harvard falls to 10-12-3.
