THE FINAL STRETCH
- The Raiders pulled within three (67-64) at 4:18 on Malcolm Regisford's field goal, but the Raiders missed their final three field goal attempts and committed five turnovers.
- After the teams exchanged free throws and Mahoney fouled out on the offensive end with 3:25 remaining, redshirt-freshman Alex Vilarino swiped the ball away from Tucker Richardson and hit two free throws to make the game two possessions.
- BU added five more free throws and used its smothering defense to prevent the Raiders from pulling any closer over the final three minutes.
- After Colgate won the tip and missed a 3-point attempt, Scanlon flushed one of his three treys to spark a 9-2 run capped by freshman Jonas Harper's floater at 14:41.
- Scanlon's fastbreak layup extended the advantage to 19-11 with 11:55 remaining in the half.
- The Raiders used 3-pointers from Jack Ferguson and Richardson to cut the deficit to 21-19 two minutes later, but the Terriers finished on a 17-6 run with the help of Vilarino's bomb and buzzer-beating layup for the 38-25 halftime lead.
- Mahoney hit a short jumper to give BU its largest lead of the game, 42-27, with 18:30 remaining in regulation.
- The teams traded blows for the next five minutes with freshman Garrett Pascoe finding sophomore Andrew Petcash in the corner for a 3-pointer and 52-41 advantage at 13:11.
- Northwestern transfer Rapolas Ivanauskas scored 14 of his game-high 24 points in the second half to help Colgate chip away at the lead and pull within two (56-54) at 8:37 on Will Rayman's 3-pointer.
- Scanlon immediately responded with one of his own, and shortly after Ferguson's third bomb at 7:02, McCoy and Mahoney hit back-to-back buckets for 65-59 advantage at 5:56.
- The Raiders cut the deficit to three on three occasions at 5:37 (65-62), 4:18 (67-64) and 3:34 (69-66).
- The win marked the second consecutive year the Terriers snapped an opponent's double-figure home win streak after halting Bucknell's 15-home game win streak last season at Sojka Pavilion.
- Earning his fifth-career double-double, Scanlon became the first Terrier to claim one on the road for BU since he had 16 points and 10 boards at Loyola Maryland on Jan. 5, 2018.
- BU went 15-of-18 at the charity stripe, while Colgate finished 14-of-16.
- The Terriers' six turnovers were the team's fewest since BU committed just six in a 64-60 home Patriot League quarterfinal win against Loyola on March 2, 2017.
- BU extended its lead in the all-time series to 28-21 and has now won two of the last three meetings at Cotterell Court.
- Ivanauskas added eight rebounds to help Colgate edge the Terriers on the boards, 28-25.
- Richardson finished with 11 points, seven assists and five rebounds, while Ferguson tallied 14 points off the bench.
- The Terriers will welcome the Leopards to Case Gym on Wednesday (Feb. 6) with the NESNplus broadcast set to begin at 7 p.m.
- BU has won the last six meetings, including last year's 81-65 home win and 75-72 road victory.
