WEST WINDSOR, N.J. - The No. 2 Boston University's women's lightweight rowing team will continue their spring season this Saturday and Sunday, looking to defend their lightweight eight title at the Knecht Cup on Mercer Lake.
The Terriers will compete in both the lightweight eight and the openweight eight competitions over the weekend. Heat racing will begin for BU on Saturday at 7:00 a.m. when the varsity eight "A", "B" and "C" boats both compete in lightweight eight heat races. The lightweight competition will be between 12 boats with two morning heat races to determine the six-fastest boats that will compete in Sunday's grand final. The Terriers will also have boats entered in the openweight four, lightweight four, and the freshman/novice eight competition.
The Terriers' No. 2 varsity eight boat will also compete in the women's openweight eight competition which will feature crews facing off in heat races on Saturday morning followed by semifinals later in the day. Crews advancing from the semifinals to the grand finals will race on Sunday.
At last year's Knecht Cup, the Terriers' first varsity eight boat advanced to the grand final of both the openweight and lightweight competition, finishing first among lightweights and third among openweights in separate grand finals races. The novice eight boat also had a big victory, winning the freshman/novice eight competition.
After this weekend's competition, the lightweights will return home and look to win their fourth straight Lightweight Beanpot against Charles River rivals MIT and Harvard on April 27.
