MIDLOTHIAN, Va. -
The Boston University golf team went wire-to-wire to claim the program's second-ever Patriot League title, earning a four-stroke victory at the 2019 Patriot League Championship at the Independence Golf Club.

BU dominated Sunday's final round, combining for a score of 293. The Terriers also led after each of the first two rounds and finished the tournament with a 54-hole total of 903 (304-306-293). The Terriers were four strokes clear of Navy (907) and 12 shots ahead of three-time defending champion and host Richmond. Head coach Bruce Chalas was named Patriot League Coach of the Year for the second time after he led his team to their first conference title since 2015.

"It feels tremendous," Chalas said. "We worked hard all year for this moment. I'm excited for the upperclassmen and the younger players. On the first day of practice I said to myself, 'We can do this.' I knew we had the talent. There's a lot of excitement around this program."

"I told the team prior to today's round that everybody needs to show up for 18 holes, and they did that. It was fun to see. We used at least one score from all six players this weekend, which says a lot about our team."

Freshman Hanako Kawasaki became the first in Patriot League history to be named both Golfer of the Year and Rookie of the Year in the same season after she erased a two-shot deficit in the final round to claim the individual title with a score of 222 (73-76-73), which tied for the second best score in PL Championship history. She made three birdies on Sunday, including a crucial one at the 17th hole to help the Terriers hang on to the win.

"Hanako is going to beat every BU and Patriot League record we have," Chalas said. "She's just getting warmed up. She's played nine events and won three. That's an incredible record. She is a program-changing player, and better than that, she's a terrific person."

Sophomore Katerina Doleckova saved her best golf of the year for this weekend. She tied for fourth with a score of 227 (76-77-74) and joined Kawasaki as a First Team All-Patriot League honoree. That 54-hole score matches her collegiate low total which she set last year.

"She was working hard this spring," Chalas said of Doleckova. "I told her that her game was good, she just needed to keep playing and keep getting that tournament experience. She's a strong player who played great all three days."

Juniors Abby Parsons (76-75-79) and Zhangcheng Guo (82-78-70) both earned Second Team All-Patriot League recognition after they tied for ninth with a score of 230. Guo was outstanding on Sunday, firing a Patriot League Championship record two-under 70. She was four-under for her round through 15 holes as she charged up the leaderboard. Parsons carded a 79 on Sunday as part of her fantastic weekend. Junior Annie Sritragul made an important par on 18 to finish Sunday with a 78 for a 54-hole total of 235 (79-79-78) and finish in a tie for 16th.

Senior Megan Carter made the most of her final appearance at the Patriot League Championship, as she recorded a hole-in-one on the par-3, 162-yard ninth hole. That began a stretch of four holes in which she went four-under en route to a final-round 76. She completed the 54-hole tournament with a score of 239 (82-81-76).

The Terriers have now won four conference tournaments, including a pair of America East championships in 2006 and 2007.
