BOSTON – Boosted by clutch hitting and strikeouts, the Boston University softball team remained perfect at home with a pair of 2-1 victories over Army West Point on Saturday afternoon.

Aliyah Huerta-Leipner crushed a game-tying solo shot to right in the bottom of the sixth, and classmate
Nicole Amodio hit an RBI walk-off single for the game-one victory. Seniors
Analisa Ruff (4th inning) and
Alex Heinen (6th inning) then contributed two-out RBI singles to help the Terriers (31-17, 13-1 PL) extend their win streak to 11 games.

Ali DuBois and freshman
Emily Gant (10-7) combined for 10 strikeouts in the circle to drop the Black Knights (25-28) to 8-9 in conference play. Army entered the doubleheader with plenty of confidence after winning last weekend's series against previous PL leader Bucknell (13-2 PL) but was held to 13 total hits in 14 innings.
GAME 1: BU 2, Army West Point 1
HOW IT HAPPENED
- The Black Knights opened the game with a one-out walk and two-out hit-by-pitch against DuBois before Heinen caught the Black Knights attempting to steal third.
- Army threatened again in the second with a one-out single and walk, but DuBois earned a ground out and strikeout to keep the game scoreless.
- The Black Knights had two more on base via singles in the third but were unable to get on the scoreboard.
- Sophomore Jen Horita started the bottom of the third by hitting a lead-off single, stealing second and advancing to third on Amodio's sacrifice bunt before Jolie Duong (11-10) got out of the jam with a strikeout and line out.
- Ashley Yoo put Army ahead in the fifth by laying down a successful bunt single, taking second on a sacrifice bunt, moving to third on infield grounder and scoring on Taylor Drayton's two-out RBI single to center.
- Duong struck out the side in the bottom half but gave up a solo homer to Huerta-Leipner in the sixth.
- Heinen followed with a one-out double before Duong earned a line out and foul out to keep the game tied, 1-1.
- Drayton was at the plate again with two outs and runner in scoring position in the top of the seventh after DuBois allowed a double, but Gant entered the circle and claimed the strikeout.
- Gant led off the bottom half with a single, moved to second on Horita's bunt single and scored following a passed ball and Amodio's walk-off RBI blooped single to center.
GAME 2: BU 2, Army West Point 1
HOW IT HAPPENED
- After the Terriers stranded two on base in the first, Army had a lead-off hit-by-pitch and one-out bunt single in the third but lined out and struck out against Gant.
- Amodio walked in the bottom half and took second on Huerta-Leipner's sacrifice bunt but was thrown out at home trying to score on senior Emily Morrow's single to center.
- The Black Knights loaded the bases on a pair of singles and one-out walk that helped set up an RBI sacrifice fly ball to left for a 1-0 advantage.
- The Terriers took advantage of an Army error with a two-out RBI single by Ruff that plated senior Alexa Ponce from second.
- Gant allowed a lead off single and sac bunt in the top of the fifth before earning back-to-back swinging strikeouts to keep the game tied, 1-1.
- BU took the lead for good in the bottom of the fifth on Morrow's two-out single and Heinen's RBI double to right center.
- Trying to mount a rally in the seventh, Army grounded out to short against Gant and then struck out twice to DuBois for the second loss on the day.
DOUBLEHEADER NOTES
- Heinen led the offense with three hits, including two doubles, while Horita, Morrow and senior Madi Killebrew all had two hits apiece.
- The BU career RBI record holer Heinen now ranks fifth all-time in the Patriot League with 150 RBIs,
- Huerta-Leipner is now second on the team with seven homers, one behind Heinen.
- The 30 combined wins by DuBois (20) and Gant (10) marks the most by two pitchers with doube-digits victories since Holli Floetker (19) and Whitney Tuthill (15) combined for 34 in 2012.
- DuBois collected her second career save in the second game against the Black Knights.
- BU improved to 13-10 all-time in the series, as Army became the first Patriot League team to avoid being shut out twice by the Terriers this season.
NEXT UP: ARMY WEST POINT
- The teams will wrap up the series on Sunday at 10 a.m., a start time moved up to avoid the afternoon rain.
- Fans are encouraged to arrive early for the Senior Day ceremony, which will start at approximately 9:45 a.m.
- The Terriers will be looking for their sixth straight home win against Army.
