WORCESTER, MA - The Boston University men's rowing team will compete at the 74th annual Eastern Sprints Championships on Sunday, sending four boats to compete on Lake Quinsigamond in Worcester, Mass. The Terriers will look to build on last year's performance when they advanced three boats the grand finals, won silver in the varsity four and finished sixth overall as a team.
The full day of racing begins with heat races at 8 a.m. and concludes with the varsity eight grand final at 5:30 p.m.
"The team is excited about racing at Eastern Sprints this weekend. It is a race that we have been preparing for since September," said head men's rowing coach Thomas Bohrer. "As a team we have been increasing speed each week. We had strong dual season with 5 races in a row with the last race being the Windermere Regatta in Seattle where we had a strong showing against University of Washington and the German National Team. Each week is about finding new speed and combinations that will produce the highest results at the championship regattas. We have a really hard working group of athletes that come to practice each day with a good attitude and the goal of getting faster. They have been fun to work with and I look forward to watching them compete".
BU's first race will be at 8:00 a.m. when the Terriers' No. 5 seeded fourth varsity eight boat races against No. 1 Yale, No. 4 Dartmouth, No. 8 Brown and No. 9 Wisconsin with the top three boats advancing to the grand final.
At 8:50 a.m., BU's No. 8 seeded third varsity eight will face off against No. 2 Princeton, No. 5 Brown and No. 11 Wisconsin and No. 14 Holy Cross with the top two boats moving on to the grand final.
BU's varsity eight boat is seeded No. 6 by the EARC (and ranked No. 8 nationally by USRowing) and will race at 9:12 a.m. against No. 1 seedYale, No. 7 Syracuse, No. 12 Columbia and No. 13 Wisconsin with the top 2 boats going to the grand final.
The BU 2V8 is seeded No. 6 and will race at 10:12 a.m. against No. 7 Dartmouth, No. 12 Wisconsin, and No. 13 George Washington.
