GOLD RIVER, Calif. - The Boston University men's rowing team will compete in the 117th IRA National Championship Regatta beginning Friday on Lake Natoma in Gold River, Calif. The Terriers will send four boats to compete for a national title over a three-day period against a field of 24 schools.
The BU varsity eight boat is seeded No. 8 after finishing 6th at the Eastern Sprints on May 19. The V8 will compete in a heat race at 11:20 a.m. EST (8:20 a.m. PDT) on Friday when they take on No. 1 Yale, No. 9 Syracuse, No. 16 Penn, No. 17 Wisconsin and No. 24 Santa Clara.
The top two boats of each heat race advance directly to the semifinals on Saturday, while all other boats will try and advance by competing in the repechage on Friday afternoon beginning at 4:50 p.m. (EST).
The Terriers' second varsity eight boat is seeded 9th and will compete in its heat race at 12:20 p.m. The 2V8 will race No. 1 Washington, No. 8 Northeastern, No. 16 Wisconsin and No. 17 Drexel with the top 2 boats advancing directly to the semis.
BU's third varsity eight boat is seeded 7th and will compete in its heat race at 1:20 p.m. against No. 2 Yale, No. 10 Navy, No. 15 Oregon State and No. 18 Drexel.
In their final heat race on Friday, the Terriers' varsity four boat will compete in an unseeded heat against Marist, Princeton, Drexel and Syracuse at 2:20 p.m. looking to advance to the semifinals.
Semifinal racing is scheduled to begin on Saturday at 11:36 a.m. EST with the men's varsity eight competition.
