
Terriers Win Five Gold Medals, Finish Third at PL Championships

RESULTS
WORCESTER, Mass. - Highlighted by five gold medal victories and a record setting performance in the 4x400m relay, the Boston University women's track & field team finished third at 2019 Patriot League Outdoor Track & Field Championship which concluded Saturday at the College of the Holy Cross.
The Terriers were led by Leah Fowlkes who won two gold medals including gold in the 400m dash with a personal-best time of 54.57. Bridget Chiaravalle had a terrific performance in the 100m hurdles, winning gold with a personal-best time of 14.10 while in the field Kennedy Jones won gold in the triple jump with a jump of 12.01 meters. Abigail Gugel also had a great performance, winning gold in the 5,000m dash with a personal-best time of 17:11.17.
But the Terriers saved the best for last. In the final event of the meet, the 4x400m relay team won gold with an amazing time of 3:42.23. Greer Liguori, Anna Foreman, Leah Fowlkes and Jordan Coverson broke the PL Championship meet record of 3:42.58 set by BU back in 2016.
Overall the Terriers won 10 medals and finished third as a team with 137 points, behind 2019 Patriot League Champion Navy (181.5 points) and second-place Army (155 points).

TOP FINISHES
• In the final event of the meet, the 4x400m relay team won gold with an amazing time of 3:42.23. Greer Liguori, Anna Foreman, Leah Fowlkes and Jordan Coverson broke the PL Championship meet record of 3:42.58 set by BU back in 2016.
• Leah Fowlkes won gold in the 400m dash with a time of 54.57, a new personal best.
• Bridget Chiaravalle won gold in the 100m hurdles with a blistering time of 14.10, a new personal best.
• Kennedy Jones won gold in the triple jump with a jump of 12.01m (39'5").
• Abigail Gugel capped of her terrific junior year with a great performance the 5,000m run, winning gold with a personal best time of 17:11.17.
• Ava Gruzen had an excellent performance in the two-day heptathlon, winning silver with 4,563 points, a new personal best. Gruzen missed gold by just 4 points, getting edged out by Navy's Catlan Goss (4,567 points) for the gold in an incredibly close competition.
• Lovie Burleson took silver in the triple jump with jump of 11.87m (38'11.5"), finishing just behind teammate Kennedy Jones.
• Greer Liguori won bronze in the 100m hurdles with a time of 14.30, a personal best.
• Andrea Claeson won silver in the 1500m run with a time of 4:36.41 behind only Abby Halbrook of Army West Point (4:35.08).
• Bridget Bishop finished fourth in the shot put with a throw of 13.94m (45"9').
• Ebony Brown advanced to the finals of the 200m dash and finished fourth with a time of 25.04. Brown also advanced to the finals of the 100m dash and finished sixth with a time of 12.08.
FRIDAY'S TOP FINISHES
• In the first running event of the meet, Abigail Gugel finished fourth in the 10,000m run with a time of 36:57.36 to earn the Terriers five points in team standings.
• Bridget Chiaravalle finished first in the 100m hurdles semifinals with a then personal-best time of 14.17 to qualify for Sunday's finals.
• Sarah Cicchetti took seventh in the hammer throw with a throw of 50.09m (164'04") and earn two team points.
• The 4x800m relay team of Emily Turner, Stephanie Forbes, Casey Kelly and Laura Parkinson finished sixth with a time of 9:03.43.
• Ebony Brown competed in the 100m dash and finished seventh with a personal-best time of 12.13 to qualify for Sunday's finals. Brown also qualified for the finals in the 200m dash, finishing second in the prelims with a time of 24.60.
• Zoe Beard took eighth in the pole vault with a vault of 3.55 meters (11'7.75").
